The best tech for students studying abroad

Written by

There’s nothing quite as exciting or daunting as packing up your stuff and heading overseas for a semester. You’ll have an opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture, a foreign language and a whole ocean of unique tech challenges. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you navigate those obstacles.

In our guide you’ll find top notch cameras to capture all those transformational memories, luggage that is basically impossible to lose, a backpack that hides a spare battery for charging your phone and, of course, some noise-cancelling headphones for those long flights filled with screaming children. But you’ll also need a lightweight laptop with solid battery life (like the HP Spectre 13.3) and a phone with a couple of SIM slots for doing a little border hopping. Check out the gallery below for all our recommendations for students studying abroad. And make sure to check out our full back-to-school guide right here.

  • I have been coming to Engadget since 2008 and at this point I will probably keep coming back for the foreseeable future because I like the “popcorn” tech coverage and out of habit. I’m not a troll and don’t want to just bash reporters or a website for the lolz or the rage but the coding on your website is making it difficult to consume your content and these showcase posts really highlight the issues with your website. I tried to view this on my iPad and it was a chore just figuring out how the layout was supposed to work underneath all the bugs. Now that I’m trying to view it on PC it’s still glitching. I know you might not have the same resources that sites like The Verge does to throw at both front end design and back and processes but surely you can strip away some of the gloss and just get a working product out there. I’m not hating on your product, I’m just frustrated by how much this site struggles with the basics.
